A common issue is that it is not clear who will perform the analysis from sampling until data interpretation. As soon as we start the onboarding process, we will also train individuals on the complete workflow. If we train individuals that will not start to work with the workflow soon after implementation, knowledge gained at the initial training will get easily lost. Also, we see situations where no further thinking has been done about the individuals who are supposed to work with it. We have seen better technical results and a smoother implementation process if one or two persons have a dedicated task to perform the analysis. And will perform the qPCR work frequently. If staff is a challenge, it might be a better scenario to outsource samples. We have seen to many times that equipment is sitting idle in the corner. Which is a waste of time and money.

You don’t need a scientific background to perform the qPCR workflow. It does require focus and rehearsal on the protocol to create solid results. Individuals dedicated with the task do need to be able to work according to the protocol. Internal quality standards will help you monitor the quality.

Both industrial waters, surface swabs and metal coupons serve as a good starting point to implement a qPCR workflow. Coupons and swabs are usually more challenging than waters. Our onboarding process starts with industrial waters. Once you have proved your capabilities at this area, you could increase complexity by measuring coupons and surface swabs.

If you aim to collect Crudes, heavy oil, or finished products (without water) or pigging debris, the current DNA isolation procedures are not originally designed for these type of samples. The standard DNA extraction kit is suitable for different water sources, coupons and swabs. We have an DNA extraction enhancer available that can extend the range of use. However, we recommend to develop a protocol for you that is specifically designed to cope with the inhibitors and contaminants from your samples.

Our reagents do not contain harmful chemicals that are required to extract DNA. The assay offer you the ability to use it wherever you want. You can use a 12volt power source (e.g. car) to power the Thermo cycler. You don’t need electricity for other parts of the workflow.

Reagents have some degree of sensitivity to temperature and humidity. DNA isolation kits and especially the target tubes are sensitive to exposure above 30 degrees celcius. For longer periods of storage, (weeks/ months) It is recommended to store target tubes an DNA isolation kits at 7 degrees celcius. It would require the availability of a fridge.
